  • According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), there are more than 600,000 homeless people in the United States on any given night. The majority of homeless individuals spend the night either in short-term transitional housing or homeless shelters. However, more than a third live in cars, under bridges. on subways and in parks.
  • The Department of Housing and Urban Development reports one-quarter of homeless individuals are children. About 138,000 homeless people are children under the age of 18, on any given night in the United States. Thousands of these children are unaccompanied. No Child Left Behind, a federal program, defines homeless children as those living in shelters and the homes of others due to economic hardship.
  • Of the 600,000 people that are homeless every night, 57,000 are veterans. 5,000 of those veterans are women and 60 percent of homeless veterans are in shelters. The other forty percent are unsheltered.

Thea Jandzio is currently the Executive Program Director of Adult and Family Residential Services with the Jewish Board of Family and Children services. It is the largest non-profit organization in New York City.

  • Executive managers are able to show humility when sharing their achievements and admit their mistakes when appropriate. Mistakes should be discussed and used as an opportunity to learn and improve. Sharing past achievements with humility instills confidence in others and can be used as a source of inspiration.
